I used my Cricut Joy to create a fun, colorful table top design using vinyl. An old, worn out table that we use as a desk in her play room went from from drab to fab!
I gathered my Cricut supplies and got to work.
Cricut Joy (or any other Cricut machine)
Cricut basic tool set
Standard grip mat for Joy
Vinyl (Premium textured metallic in gold)
Removable Smart Vinyl (coral, mint, and party pink)
Cricut Design Space
Cricut Access (Standard or Premium)
Scissors
As you can see, the table was in rough shape and part of the top had peeled away. I gave it a deep clean and peeled the excess material from the top.
Using a sanding pad, I sanded down the peeled away surface until it was as smooth as possible. I usually use regular hand sanding pads for this type of project, but we were out, so this orbital sanding pad did the trick.
After sanding, I wiped it down and got started on the table top design glow up!
I started off by measuring and marking my mint vinyl, which I wanted to use to cover the damaged section of table top.
Using a marker, I marked where i needed to trim the vinyl down.
And did the same thing from the underside.
I used my scissors and the provided guide lines to carefully cut the vinyl. If you have a large cutting mat and exact-o blade that would work better.
After the vinyl was cut down to size, I carefully applied it to the table top using the burnishing tool.
It did a pretty decent job at covering the damage underneath.
Next, I grabbed the party pink vinyl and marked it up the same as i had done previously.
Then, I cut it down to size and carefully applied it to the table top perpendicularly, butting it up to the mint vinyl.
I repeated the exact same steps with the coral vinyl until my table top design was to my liking!
The table was looking cute, but I definitely wasn’t going to stop here – it was time to add some fun pops of modern design elements.
Using a ruler to roughly measure the width of the vinyl strips, I decided on the size of my embellishment designs.
To Design Space I went!
I started a new project and added a modern sunburst image that I found in the library using my Cricut Access membership.
I sized the sunbursts down to fit well on the colored vinyl strips, then grouped them together.
Using my Cricut Joy and Vinyl (premium textured metallic in gold) I got to cutting.
After the shapes were cut out, I used my fingernails to easily weed the vinyl shapes away.
I placed each sunburst on the mint vinyl using my fingers and burnishing tool, and I eyeballed the placement. You could always use a ruler to mark them exactly if you prefer your design to be more exact.
I love how modern these shapes look in this table top design! The combination of this textured gold vinyl and the modern sun burst is perfection!
Time to create my next modern design in a slightly different modern sunburst look.
Repeating the same steps as the previous design, I quickly cut more stickers.
By this time I got very excited to see how fun this table top design was turning out. I couldn’t wait to finish up the last vinyl strip with more embellishments.
When I found this modern asterisk design from the Cricut Access library I knew it would be a great finishing touch to the design.
After I cut the stickers, I added them to the pink vinyl strip.
I went for an imperfect look on my placement, but again, you could use a ruler to get exact if you prefer.
My table top design was complete after only about 10 minutes, and I loved how it turned out even more than I expected!
Vivi got a small modern chair when she was a toddler, and over time the white material had yellowed. I decided to give it a quick coat of glossy white spray paint to bring it back to life.
A trash bag over the legs protected them perfectly from the paint.
This fun ad colorful table has so much personality now, and pairs perfectly with the modern chair!
The upcycled table went back into the play room and fits the space perfectly!
I love that at age 8, Vivi can still use this table and chair. We got a lot of bang for our buck with these items!
She uses this space to color and journal, and has thanked me for bringing her desk back to life!
It feels good to reuse an older, run down piece instead of throwing it away – I always try to upcycle whenever possible!
What do you think of my quick and easy table top design using Cricut vinyl?
I hope I inspired you to repurpose your word down items and showed you yet another thing that Cricut Joy can do!
xoxo

I’ve blogged about my love for Cricut many times, and it’s probably pretty obvious that I’m a huge fan and truly love their products. This is a sponsored post, but all opinions and projects are 100% my own.
