Bedroom update and Minted art shelves

Last weekend we hung and styled two Minted art shelves in a quick bedroom update. They were easy to install, look great, and showcase our toddler’s handmade artwork, which makes her so proud.
Let’s take a look at the before shall we?
This room was pretty decent to start with—the existing gray paint, trim, and shelving/closet doors work just fine. It used to be a guest room and Vivienne was in another room (we now call it the teepee room, now her playroom), but about a year ago we turned it into her bedroom.
Here are some quick shots of her teepee play room (I digress).
Back to her bedroom…
As I mentioned, we found some great quality, handcrafted woods shelves from Minted, and knew they’d fit and look perfect above Vivi’s dresser. We decided that the 4′ and 3′ option would work best for our needs (they offer smaller sizes as well).
We recruited Ted to hang them, and I documented the steps to show how easy the process is.
We taped out the areas we where wanted the shelves to begin and end as a guide. Ted screwed in the bracket at the center and made sure the shelf was level (using the included mini level tool). He marked pilot holes through the bracket and then removed the bracket. He drilled pilot holes on all marked areas, and then hammered in the provided anchors, which make the shelves so much more load bearing (maximum weight capacity is 15 lbs.).
Once the anchors were hammered in, he re-hung the bracket, and then screwed into all anchors.
Lastly, he hung the shelf onto the bracket until it was flush with the wall.
We repeated the same steps with the second shelf, which we decided to stagger on the wall.
Vivi always likes to help, and the drill is her very favorite tool. 🙂
Ted hung the second shelf on the bracket, and we were all set.
We gathered some artwork and decorative items and got to styling.
And here are the results…
We clipped some of Vivi’s favorite handmade art pieces using the provided clips (comes with 10 art clips for the 3″ shelf, and 14 art clips for the 4″ shelf).
We mixed in two of our favorite Minted prints…
And here’s a quick tour of the rest of the room…
The closet doors are shelves, which are pretty handy. There’s a little secret passageway through to the next bedroom in the closet as well. Just another oddly fun little detail of this house.
Vivi absolutely LOVES her updated room, and has done a wonderful job keeping it clean—she even likes makes her bed—who is this child, ha?!
My favorite corner is definitely the Minted shelves. They make such a statement, and allow for some many art pieces and colors to be brought into the room.
I highly recommend these Littlest Artist Shelves! Anyone else have them?
