Super Bowl decorations on your mind for your upcoming party? I created some easy DIY Cricut and handmade decor and mixed in store bought items as well.
Note: All of my ideas below can easily be recreated in your favorite team colors. As you’ll see, my favorite team is the CHIEFS. 🙂

I’ve done quite a few DIY football party decor projects before (see here and here), but decided to get extra creative this year.
I’ll be showing all of my creations in person on KCTV5’s My KC Live on Friday, February 9.
Let’s start with the handful of Cricut items I made then move onto the handmade, then store bought items after.
Two banners
Paper pennant banner
First up, I created a simple pennant flag style banner using the following supplies and tools:
Cricut Joy Xtra
Scrapbook paper in my team colors (red and yellow) – you could also use vinyl
Light grip mat
Hot glue gun
String
Hole punch
In my preferred design software (Adobe Illustrator – I’m a professional graphic designer) I created some simple triangular flags with a letter on each one (in the free font, University). I pathed/cut out the letter from each triangle and exported them as svg files.
You can totally do all of this in Cricut Design Space too (check out Cricut Access). There are so many options!
In Design Space I grouped all of the flags and had my Joy Xtra cut them out. Once cut I used my weeding tool to remove the excess paper.
I originally wanted to add a border to these triangle pennants, but decided that would be a little difficult, so I discarded those pieces.
I then cut out slightly larger yellow pennants for the banner backers.
It was time to assemble the banner using my hot glue gun, hole punch, and string.
I lightly glues the main touch points on the back of the red top layer, and adhered to the yellow layer. A little glue went a long way!
Once assembled, I cut two holes at the top of each pennant to run my string through. And my first Super Bowl decoration was complete!
Foam football banner
Supplies needed:
Brown foam
Cricut Joy Xtra
White vinyl
Light grip mat
Hot glue gun
String
Scissors
Tassels or similar (optional)
Next up I recreated a foam football banner similar to a couple older ones I’ve made in the past (see here and here). In this updated version I used my Cricut to create vinyl stickers.
Using a previously made football, I traced out 5 football shapes on my brown foam.
Then I used my scissors to cut them out. I like how one side is smooth and the other is rough on the foam I used. I usually go with the smooth side, but decided to use the more rough side this time.
Using my Cricut and some free football laces and curved lines art found on Cricut Access, I quickly cut some stickers from my white vinyl. Once they were all cut, I applied them to the footballs.
I really love how these DIY footballs turned out, and they took less than 5 minutes to make!
It was time to glue them to my string and add some tassels! I had some extra red material left over from a DIY Chiefs jean jackets I made for a TV segment a few years before. I simply rolled it up and hot glued it together. I wish I has some yellow material on hand as well.
You can also buy premade tassels, which look much better (I just wanted to use what I had on hand).
This football banner only took me 10 minutes to make – not to shabby! It will look great hung above the CHIEFS banner.

Here’s a photo of the football banner I made in 2020 so you can see how the red and yellow tassels look together – much more polished.
If you don’t have a Cricut, you could also just add white tape for the laces.
Chiefs apparel (not decorations, but still important)
I LOVEEE using my Cricut to decorate shirts, tea towels, bags, etc. Ever since I got my first Cricut in 2020, I’ve created so many items (for personal use only) – so fun!
Supplies needed:
Blank apparel (white tee, black sweatshirt, gray long sleeve, red tee)
Smart Iron-on
Cricut Joy Xtra
Light grip mat (optional)
Weeding tool
Cricut Easy Press
Easy Press Mat
Burnishing tool
To start, I created a cute shirt for my daughter and her friend using an svg file I purchased from Etsy. I loaded the art into Cricut Design Space, sized the art shirt, mirrored it, then cut the design on my yellow iron on vinyl.
My Cricut Easy Press was also powered up.
Once the design was cut, I weeded away the excess vinyl exposing my design. I also decided to add my daughter’s name to the back of the shirt for a personalized touch.
I followed the Easy Press directions on the Cricut Heat Guide and pressed the designs onto the t-shirts.
Tip: Don’t forget to link roll your apparel before pressing to remove any lint.
After the vinyl cooled I burnished the material onto the shirt to ensure it was fully adhered. Then I gently peeled away the backer exposing my finished shirts!
I know they are not Super Bowl decorations, but they’re still important. 🙂
I followed the same directions on another two shirts I made for myself and my daughter. And I really love how they turned out!
DIY stickers for a good juju candle
I found a couple candles at Dollar Tree and decided to add some DIY stickers to it. I love that my Cricut Joy Extra cuts stickers so well.
Supplies needed:
Cricut Joy Xtra
Light grip mat
Printable waterproof sticker paper
Digital art files (from Design Space, Etsy, etc)
Color inkjet printer
I purchased 2 affordable digital files from Etsy (Mahomes, and Travis Kelce) and created my own Taylor Swift sticker art in my design software.
Then I brought them all individually into Design Space as a “print then cut” file.
I sized them before printing them out on my inket printer (on a sheet of sticker paper).
I used my burnishing tool to slowly adhere the waterproof laminating sheet to the printout.
And finally, I added my laminated sticker sheet to my Cricut for cutting. I’m so impressed with how accurately the Cricut cuts!
Once they were cut I peeled them away from the backer sheet like you would any standard sticker.
I quickly applied my new DIY stickers to the good juju candles. So fun right?
Our 10 year old daughter really wants the Travis and Taylor one. 🙂

Football lace stickers on treat boxes
Using some of the extra stickers from my football banner, I added football lace stickers to these affordable treat boxes ($2 from Party City, here are similar). Such a fun touch for little effort!
There are so many fun things you can make with a Cricut – I highly recommend all of my Cricut machines, materials, and tools!
Stickers for your water tumbler
Adding stickers to a water bottle definitely isn’t a DIY project, but it’s a fun way to show your team pride.
I found some stickers on Etsy that I loved, and ordered them right away. The first one is from my talented friend Ashley from The Orange Ampersand shop. She has tons of design options (not just Chiefs).
I also ordered a Taylor Swift heart hands sticker from CocoLlama Designs on Etsy. I love these stickers too!
DIY goal post with lettering
I made this wooden dowel rod goal post four years ago, and it has held up great (I did lose the foam base and had to replace it this year). This year I also added the letters “CHIEFS” to it for a little extra personalization.
Best part, they were the letters that I punched out of the paper for my CHIEFS pennant style paper banner. It’s so nice to reuse items that would be waste otherwise.
Supplies needed:
12″ Wooden dowel rods
Hot glue gun and glue
Spray paint in yellow and green
Floral foam block (square or rectangle)
I spray painted two coats of yellow on the dowel rods, and sprayed the foam block green. I only had to do one coat on the foam.
Once the spray paint dried, the project moved super quickly.
I pushed one dowel rod through the center of the foam block all the way through the foam.
Then I took another dowel and hot glue it horizontally – centered on the first rod. I held it in place for about 10-15 seconds until the glue completely dried.
I honestly didn’t expect hot glue to be strong enough to hold the dowel weight, but it does a great job for a decor piece.
Tip: If you plan on using the goal post for a game, I recommend adding some epoxy (etc) to make it more sturdy.
Next I hot glued the third rod vertically to the end of the horizontal bar, and held in place until dry.
Then I repeated the same exact step on the other side.
Finally, I hot glued the “CHIEFS” letters to it and added a sticker. That’s it! Another super easy Super Bowl decoration!
I made one of these a few years ago using yellow drinking straws, but this one was actually much easier and turned out cuter I think.
Penalty flag napkins
I bought some super affordable yellow napkins and some foam balls from the Dollar Tree, and created some “penalty flag” napkins.
I used some clear rubber bands to create the look in under 30 seconds. So quick and easy!
DIY Super Bowl trophy
Want an even easier one? How about a cute trophy? I have made a few of these over the years, and rename another one this year (I lost the last one I made, oops)
Supplies needed:
Small foam football toy
Small terra cotta pot (or anything similar you can find)
Gold or silver spray paint
Hot glue gun and glue
I sprayed the football and pot with once coat of metallic spray paint and let dry.
Then I added a large amount of hot glue to the bottom of the football and place onto the bottom of the pot.
I held it n place for 10 seconds until the glue dried.
SOOO easy and it adds a fun element to your Super Bowl party decor!
Here’s the more silver colored version I made this year. I like the way the one above turned out better, personally. I added a Chiefs sticker to my new version.
DIY football field placemat Super Bowl decoration
Another easy idea that I created a few years ago is a felt football field mat.
Supplies needed:.
Green felt sheet
White tape – thick or thin (this works best)
Scissors
White number stickers (you could easily make these with a Cricut as well)
I added tape and to the center of the felt for the 50 yard line leaving some overhanging.
Note: I only had a 3/4″ white tape on hand, but a thinner tape would have worked really well for this project too.
I folded the excess tape to the backside of the felt and repeated this step three times, then added the numbers.
The stickers don’t permanently stick to the felt, but work fine for a a few days (a Cricut vinyl would work really well here).
You could also hot glue the stickers on for a more permanent placement.
In my updated version I also added some Chiefs stickers at the 50 yard line.
I like to use DIY place mats like these as a layering piece on the table. This year I decided to add in some confetti from the field of the 2021 AFC championship game for an extra layer of fun.
Here’s how I set it up in previous years.
Bonus Idea: Chocolate covered strawberry footballs
A couple yers ago I decided to make some quick chocolate covered strawberries with icing laces. They were a big hit!
Supplies needed:
• Dipping chocolate
• White icing
• Fresh strawberries
I washed and dried the strawberries, and melted the chocolate following the directions on the packaging. It took me about a minute to melt the chocolates in the microwave.
I dipped the strawberries into the chocolate until they were mostly covered, and then put them in the freezer for a few minutes to help the chocolate harden.
One hardened, I drew the laces on the chocolate. After a few tries, I found it was easier to draw the horizontal laces first, then draw the vertical last.
These chocolate dipped strawberry footballs will really wow your guests.
That does it for my DIY Super Bowl decorations. Now let’s talk about the items I bought at the store!
I plan on having some cupcakes for the big game and will add some mini goal post toppers to them like I did here. A Chiefs sticker was added to one of them for an extra touch.
I mostly shopped at the Dollar Tree, Party City, and Amazon for these supplies and I borrowed the Chiefs memorabilia from my boss, who’s a big collector.
These adorable referee koozies are so fun and come with a whistle attached!
I adore this chip and snack server in a helmet that I borrowed from my boss. Soooo fun!
It’s currently sold out on Amazon, but other teams are available.
On game day I’ll add something besides dips in the front section—maybe some sweet snacks.
These mini dip bowls are affordable and cute, so I got three of them to mix in. (The ones I have are sold out so I liked a similar one).
I bought a table cover for a folding plastic table, which I’ll probably use on game day
And a mixture of generic and Chiefs plates from the Dollar Tree and Party City. The Chiefs cups were 99 cents each.
You can buy premade football snack holders as well if you don’t want to decorate your own like i did.
I borrowed this Patrick Mahomes bobble head from my boss (similar).
Same thing with the KC Wolf (similar) and Travis Kelce (similar) bobbleheads. They look great under the DIY goal post from a previous year!
I borrowed this mini Chiefs helmet in my previous setup.
