Football Party Decorations – 2 Easy Banner ideas

Football party decorations or other decor on your mind for your upcoming party? I created some easy DIY banners using my Cricut.

No cutting machine? No problem – you can make both of these by hand using scissors or an Xacto knife.

Both of my ideas below can be created in your favorite team colors. My favorite team is the CHIEFS, so I went with red and yellow.

Are you also a Chiefs fan? Check out these FREE KC Chiefs wallpapers I shard awhile back.

I’ve decorated for quite a few DIY football parties over the years (see here and here), but went a bit extra last year.

I even showed this tutorial on KCTV5’s My KC Live!

Paper pennant banner

I created a simple triangle pennant flag style banner using the following supplies and tools:

Cricut Joy Xtra (you can also use scissors or an Xacto knife)
Scrapbook paper in my fave team colors (red and yellow)
Light grip mat
Hot glue gun
String
Hole punch

I created some simple triangular flags with a letter on each one in my preferred design software, Adone Illustratob (in the free font, University). I cut out a letter from each triangle and exported each one as separate svg files.

You can definitely do this in Cricut Design Space too – I’m just more familiar with Illustrator (check out Cricut Access).

In Design Space I grouped all of the separate flags and used my Cricut to cut everything. Then I used my weeding tool to remove all the excess paper.

Originally I wanted to add a border to these triangles, but later decided that would be a little difficult, so I discarded those pieces. Sometimes ideas don;t go as planned, and that’s ok. 🙂

Then I cut out larger yellow pennants for the backers.

Next I assembled the banner using a hot glue gun, hole punch, and some string.

Using a little bit of hot glue on the main touch points, I adhered the layers.

For the next step I cut two holes at the top of each pennant to run my string through. That’s it – See making your own football party decorations is actually pretty easy!

Foam football banner

Supplies needed:
Brown foam
Cricut Joy Xtra (or scissors/ an Xacto knife
White vinyl
Light grip mat
Hot glue gun
String
Scissors
Tassels or similar (optional)

For my next banner I created some foam footballs (see past versions here and here). Then I used my Cricut to create vinyl stickers, but you can use simple white tape or chalk markers to get the same effect..

I traced out 5 football shapes on my brown foam, fitting as many as I could on one sheet.

Using my scissors, I cut them all out. This foam has a smooth and rough side and I decided to use the more rough side this time.

I used my Cricut and some free art found on Cricut Access tocut some stickers from my white vinyl. Then I quickly and easily applied them to the footballs.

I LOVE how these little DIY footballs look, and best part, they took less than 5 minutes!

Using hot glue, I attached them to my string and then added some tassels! You can ski this step if you’d like. I had extra tassle material left over from a DIY Chiefs jean jackets I made for a TV segment awhile back. I cut some material, rolled it up, and hot glued it together. Yellow tassles would havebeen cute too, but I only had the red.

Did you know you can buy premade tassels? These would look more polished, but I just used what I had on hand.

This football banner decoration was so quick and easy to make. It’ will’ll look great hung above the pennant banner.

Below is the football banner I made in 2020 with red and yellow tassels – I like this one!

If you don’t have a Cricut, you could also just add white tape for the laces.
