Our mini mudroom closet in the entryway was in need of a refresh, so that’s just what I did!
I worked with Dutch Boy® Paints to “Simplify the DIY” and completed this project in two days!

I headed to my local Menards® Home Improvement Store to pick up some Dutch Boy® Platinum® Plus Paint and Primer, a Purdy brush, and Purdy roller.
My daughter Vivi helped me pick the perfect paint color – Frosted Fir 330-2DB (in satin finish).

Here’s a look at the before photo – it was fine before, but just begging for a fresh makeover and new trim!
To start, I cleared the closet out completely minus one shelf that was unable to be removed.
I cleaned all the surfaces and then started painting with my favorite paint – Dutch Boy Paints Platinum Plus Interior in the color Frosted Fir 330-2DB (satin). It’s a 100% acrylic paint + primer with Stain-Shield Technology.
The premium coating offers excellent hide and coverage, has exceptional stain resistance, and is highly scrubbable and washable.
The paint’s no-prep, no-prime feature enables application directly over sound, non-peeling, previously painted glossy surfaces or uncoated drywall, plaster, masonry, and non-bleeding wood.
Dutch Boy® Platinum® Plus interior paint is GREENGUARD® certified for indoor air quality.
Available in the quart or one-gallon Twist & Pour container or the easy-to-carry 3.5-gallon pail in Flat, Eggshell, Satin, and Semi-Gloss sheens.
I mixed up the paint and used my Purdy paint brush to trim in all the edges from floor to ceiling.
I decided to paint the trim and walls the same color for a color drenched look.
Once everything was trimmed in, I rolled the paint on using my Purdy Roller.
The paint application was smooth and covered very well.
Once the whole closet was painted, I let it dry while I worked on repainting our storage cabinet.
We’ve had this gray cabinet for almost a decade, and once I painted the closet walls, I just knew I had to paint the cabinet the same color for a more cohesive semi built-in feel.
I cleaned it, filled in some nail holes, sanded, removed all the hardware, and then finally started painting!
I ended up painting two coats to ensure the original gray paint was covered. Once it was dry, I installed the hardware and moved it back into the closet.
Then I started to add some accessories in to give it some personality and color until we could move onto the next phase: Installing new casing trim!
The closet used to have doors when we first moved in, and we decided to remove them for a more exposed mudroom look. My husband Ted and I replaced the old door casing with a clean wood casing, which made a big difference.
Thankfully we already had the materials on hand, so we were able to get to work the following evening.
Ted was a big help on this project. He had to install some wood shims along the trim base before adding the new flat trim casing so it would be the correct height to be flush with the current front trim.
After the casing was installed I filled the nail holes with filler and then sanded it down. Next I caulked all the seams and allowed them to dry for 30 minutes.
Then it was time to paint all the trim with a fresh coat of Dutch Boy® Dura Clean™ Cabinet, Door & Trim (in Ultra White 002W, semi-gloss). I had some leftover from my DIY closet room project.
After the paint dried, I added a few more finishing touches to the space and stepped back to admire it.
I absolutely love how it turned out – it’s so much more fresh and inviting now!
What do you think of my mini mudroom closet makeover? I love it so much!
I’m always very impressed with the quality and coverage of Dutch Boy® Paints.
