I headed to my local Menards Home Improvement Store to pick up some Dutch Boy® Platinum® Plus Paint and Primer, a Purdy brush, and Purdy roller.

Gather your supplies:

I chose the color Canvased 015W (satin) to coordinate with our existing wall color, Existence 420-1DB (eggshell).

• Purdy paintbrush
• Purdy roller and frame
• Level
• Tape measure
• Pencil
• Painter’s tape
• Sanding block
• Wall repair kit
• Drop cloth
• String (or painter’s tape) and a thumbtack (for the arch top)

Here’s a look at the before photo – it was just fine before, but this corner was begging for a DIY painted wall arch!

To start, I cleared all of the furniture out of the way and used my painter’s tape to mark where the record cabinet will go on the floor. My goal was to line up the arch and the cabinet.

Then I began to repair the wall, filling nail holes and a larger damaged area. I smeared on the filler, then smoothed it out with a scraper tool.

There was a large vertical sheetrock seam showing as well, so I filled that in the best I could. Once everything was dry I sanded all the repaired areas for a smooth finish.

Finally, I wiped the wall to remove any dust.

It was time to measure and determine the sizing for the arch.

I took my tape measure and marked 5″ to the left and right side of the floor tape, marking it on the wall.

Using my level and a pencil, I drew a vertical line on both sides, which would be the left and right side of the arch.

To draw the arch at the top I was planning on using a tack, string, and pencil, but my husband Ted had a better idea.

We folded a long piece of painter’s tape in half to make it extra strong. Then we measured the dead center of both lines and tacked the tape strip on the wall.

I pulled the tape to the left side first and noted where the tape met the already drawn vertical lines. I used another thumb tack to poke a hole in the tape strip for my pencil tip to poke through.

Then I very slowly and carefully let the tape guide my pencil from the center to the left vertical line.

I repeated the exact same step on the right side from the center until I had a perfect curve.

If your curve were to not line up with your vertical lines as perfectly as you’d want, it’s easy to simply erase your vertical pencil line and redraw it with a level.

Tip: I had a couple spots where I needed to erase some extra pencil marks and this worked well for me. An everyday cleaner and a rag also work well to remove pencil markings.

I stepped back to admire my work – this measuring and drawing step took about 20 minutes. It was worth it to ensure I had everything precisely measured.

Next it was time to tape around the edges for a crisp paint line!

Taping the two vertical sides was quick and easy, but taping the arch took a little more patience.

Once I got to the curve section, I took small strips of tape and carefully overlapping them followed the line I drew. I pushed the tape down firmly as each piece overlapped to ensure a solid hold.

It was finally time to paint my DIY wall arch!

I gathered my paint and supplies and got to work trimming the edges around the tape.

Once the edges were painted, I covered the middle area of the arch using my paint roller for a smooth finish.

I applied two coats just to ensure everything was even, but I probably could have gotten away with one coat. That’s one reason why I love this paint so much!

Next, I carefully peeled the tape away revealing super crisp lines!

There were a couple spots that had some pencil lines showing, so I took my everyday cleaner and a rag and quickly wiped up the markings.
