Spa-themed birthday party? Yes, please! We decided to go with this cute and fun theme for Vivi’s ninth birthday party, and it was a big hit!
If you’ve been following me for awhile, you know I love to decorate for birthday parties.
I’m so excited that we got to work with Airtasker to make this spa-themed party a reality.
Have you heard of Airtasker? It’s a trusted community platform that connects people who need to outsource tasks and find local services, with people who are looking to earn money and ready to work.
From simple to complicated tasks, Airtasker can help you complete your home cleaning, handyman jobs, admin work, photography, graphic design, or even build a website.
The website was even easier to use than I expected, and I was so pleased with the results. Here’s a look at both tasks posted in my dashboard.
We hired Jenny to paint the kid’s nails and braid their hair (she’s a former teacher and sooo great with kids). And we hired Kristi to bake, decorate, and deliver 20 spa-themed sugar cookies (she is extremely talented)!
Airtasker was so kind to cover the costs of these tasks.
Once I chose the perfect Taskers and they accepted, I was able to message them details about the party along with my phone number. Airtasker goes out of their way to ensure everyone’s safety. It felt very safe to me!
I’ll share more about our chosen Taskers and their skills later in the post. Keep reading!

After we chose the perfect Taskers, Vivi and I got to work decorating for the spa-themed birthday party that would host 6 friends.
We started with the photo booth backdrop – who doesn’t love a photo booth?!
I started by hanging one fringe backdrop on a smaller wall in the dining room, and then began building a balloon scape to go around the sides.
I swear by these simple style balloon kits, and have made tons of balloon scapes with them over the years.
To get started, you simply add one balloon to each hole in the strip where it is tied. Then repeat that step until you have enough balloons for your project. I like to mix in small, medium, and large sized balloons to give it movement and interest.
Oh, and I just recently got this affordable electric balloon pump, which makes it sooo much quicker and easier. Its a lifesaver!
Once I got going on the backdrop some more, I decided that a wider area would work best for the booth, so I moved it over to a larger wall below some stairs.
I decided to use two backdrops to fill the width of the new area, and also hung the balloon strip using a couple tacks and some tape.
Once the balloon strip goes up, I always add in filler balloons with tape to fill the gaps. One thing to note: We used balloons that we already had on hand, so they were not a part of any set, just FYI.
Next, I blew up some gold foil letters that read “spa party” and came in a handy kit along with some balloons. While I did this, Vivi assembled the affordable props for the photo booth.
We decided to use the “spa” balloons on the backdrop…
…and added the “party” balloons to another area along with a tassel strand I’ve had for almost a decade. 🙂
I added a small prop table and used one of my soft light boxes that I use for filming TV segments, etc. to bring extra light.
The DIY spa birthday photo booth was complete!
It was time to switch gears and make the main spa party favors – personalized robes!
I used my design software (Adobe Illustrator) and my Cricut Joy to design and cut vinyl iron-on holographic names for each robe, then I weeded away the excess vinyl using my tool set.
Using my Cricut Easy Press 2, I quickly adhered names to each robe.
I love how these robes turned out, and the holographic iron-on vinyl gives it an extra fun touch!
We purchased a few more spa-themed favors at Dollar Tree, and added them to gift bags.
Finally, we set up the dining room table with a protective table cloth and laid out all the nail painting and braiding accessories.
Airtasker was so kind to send us some color extension clips and nail polish ahead of time. We also purchased some other nail polish and accessories at Dollar Tree.
It was time to go pick up the spa-themed birthday party cake!
I ordered a custom cake online via Walmart for only $13, and got to choose the colors, flavors, decor, and even had them write a birthday message on top. I asked them to leave the top half of the cake blank so I could add my own accessories.
To save money, I ordered a $3 half Barbie pick online, and switched out the head with one of Vivi’s Barbies that looked like her. We also added a few spa accessories to her that we had on hand.
I took some green icing and added it to her face to look like a face mask – yes, I had way too much fun with this, ha!
Oh, and here is what the Barbie pick looks like pulled out of the cake. I forgot to take a before photo, but this gives you the idea.
To finish off the cake, I stuck in some small affordable paper spa decor pieces.
We absolutely loved this cake!
Later that day our friendly Tasker, Kristi delivered the most beautiful spa-themed birthday cookies, and I just about died of cuteness overload!
She even made personalized robe cookies for each guest – just amazing!!
Finally, it was spa party day! We couldn’t wait to set the cookies out on the dessert cart next to the cake.
I added a “9” balloon and some more decade-old tassels to my sunburst mirror for some extra festivity. The DIY tiered glass cookie tray was made by me about 10 years ago as one of my first ever blog posts.
Here’s a close look at the cookies. See what I mean by cuteness overload?! It was almost difficult to eat them they were so adorable.
Guest arrival
Once guests arrived to our house, they were welcomed with a yard sign that I purchased for $15 on clearance a couple years ago and reuse each year (I found the exact set here). I also created another smaller balloon scape on the front porch.
They placed their gifts on our entry table that I decorated because I’m a party animal, ha!
Our Tasker, Jenny arrived and it was time to get started on the hair braiding. She was so friendly and great with kids. We loved having her over for our spa-themed birthday party!
We had two girls get braided at a time, and they all loved being able to add in the clip on color extensions and custom clips that Jenny made herself. How sweet was that?!
While the girls waited their turn for braids and nail painting, they sang karaoke in the other room and had their photos taken by me at the photo booth.
We plan on mailing the printed photos in our thank you cards.
Jenny finished up everyone’s nails, and the kids posed for a couple photos with her before she left. She was the absolute best!
We ended with some pizza, gifts, cake, and outdoor play!
A huge thank you to Airtasker for making this spa-themed birthday party possible.
I highly recommend using them for any of your needs larger or small. They have a Tasker for everything!
And I especially recommend my two Taskers, Jenny and Kristi if you’re in the Kansas City area. Kristi can also be found on Facebook.
