A gold leaf jewelry dish DIY is a fun and easy winter craft and also makes a great Galentine’s / Valentine’s Day gift!
You can use them to organize and display your jewelry, keys, etc! I’ve made quite a few over the years, and I’ll show you how!
Supplies needed:
• Wooden bowls, trays, etc
• Gold leaf paper (or liquid gold leaf)
• Gentle Gold leaf brush
• Mod podge (or gold leaf adhesive)
• Acrylic paint
• Paint brushes
• Painters tape (optional)
Start with your wooden bowl, acrylic paint, and a paint brush and get creative!
I hand painted on one section of the bowl (you could also use painter’s tape if you want super crisp lines).
Once the first coat dries, paint another 2-3 coats until you’re happy with the look.
Next I used gold leaf paper to overlap the paint for a layered look. To do this I used a paint brush to paint on some Mod Podge.
Note: Mod Podge, liquid gold leaf, or and gold leaf adhesive work for this step too.
Once tacky, I used my hand to apply the gold leaf and accompanying wax sheet to the Mod Podge.
I gently used fingers to push the gold leaf onto the glue, then removed the top layer of paper.
Gently push the gold leaf onto the glue a little further.
Using my god leaf brush, I smoothed the whole area and gently wiped away any excess.
I smoothed the gold leaf section, but didn’t worry about imperfections. I usually like the organic look of the gold leaf.
Finally I gently brushed over the gold leaf with some Mod Podge to seal it to the bowl and let it dry.
After it fully dried it became very sturdy and shiny.
I just love how my gold leaf dish turned out!
Below are some similar gold leaf dishes I’ve made using thrifted pieces:
I highly recommend making a gold leaf jewelry dish!
They would make a great gift for a teacher, Mother’s Day, or friend.
