THE MAKERY KC // HIMMELI WREATH

Last Sunday I got to attend my very first DIY workshop put on by The Makery KC, and it was so much fun! Any other Kansas City peeps ever been?

If not, here’s a little recap….

The Makery KC holds events during the First Friday Weekends at the one and only The Painted Sofa in the West Bottoms. They want customers to feel inspired among their surrounding, and no place could be more perfect than The Painted Sofa, which is a beautifully renovated building, and is proving to be the coolest place to be every First Weekend of the month!

I made my way through the store and up the staircase, and was pleasantly surprised at how cute The Makery space was. They had some holiday music playing, the tables set up with the supplies in the middle, some bar carts with snacks and wine on them, their previous projects on display, and the cutest couch setup.

The class started as Kristin, Ashley, and Christina introduced themselves, and they walked us through how to make a super cool and modern Himmeli wreath from gold straws and wire. They made the project easy to understand for all 15-20 attendees. We all worked away while we chatted and got to know each other.

As we worked, the ladies came around to check in on us and to top our wines off. It was very casual and a fun way to learn a new craft as a group versus crafting/DIYing alone, which is what I usually do.

I Instagram storied the hell out of the space before and during the class—it was that good, ha. Here are some of my behind the scenes snaps:

After about 90 minutes everyone finished their wreaths and they were spray painted gold to add a more gold metallic look and to cover any imperfections. They even gave out a super cute holiday attachment that we can add to our wreath during the holiday season. I’ll probably add a new piece for each holiday.

And here’s my wreath at my house. I’m trying it out in a couple different spots—overlapping a sunburst mirror above the bar cart in the dining room…

Isn’t it the coolest wreath ever? It was easier to make than I expected, and the ladies helped along the way when I got stuck. It will be up in our house year round. 🙂

If you’ve ever been to a Makery KC workshop, I’d love to hear about your experience. If you haven’t been yet, I definitely recommend taking an upcoming workshop. They even do holiday party workshops.
