DIY // GUEST BATHROOM

Here is what the upstairs guest bath looked like when we moved in 3 years ago:

What is the ugly wallpaper obsession about?
Ted wanted to do this one by himself and get a feel for tiling on a smaller space
(and to warm him up for the larger rooms to be done in our house).
He bought 12×12 square tiles and using a tile saw cut them in half making them more rectangular
6 x 12s. He put up and painted wainscoting instead of using wall tiles (we still have a
ton of white subway tiles that will be used on a future project – they were free!).We repurposed the mirror from another room.
The pedestal sink saves a lot of space and works for this room much better.
Best part is that is was FREE.
Overall this project ran us around $100 for paint, the light fixture and the tile.
Much better, don’t you think?

  1. Hi Audrey, thank you so much for all the great ideas. My husband and I are looking at buying a home that's almost identical to yours with same issues….. dated!!! House is same set up too. I came across your post while looking for ideas for repainting kitchen cabinets. I since have browsed through the rest of your diy projects and am amazed with all your work. Would you be interested in posting colors for wall coloring in family room, dinning room? Oh I almost forgot, ideas on painting trim….. color, finish, any tips would be so helpful. this house were wanting to purchase is aaaall oak as well 🙁 Told my husband I wouldn't want to purchase if we couldn't paint trim white. Again, thank you so much for all yuour help and ideas. Im so afraid to move on to something else on computer for fear I will lose your website….. Julie

  2. Yeah! That's so much better! Glad you removed that ugly wallpaper. It just made the entire room look outdated and a bit gloomy. The new pedestal sink creates a bigger space and modern look. And it matches the mirror beautifully.
