Vivienne and I set off to our local Goodwill Store on the hunt for the perfect glassware and filler to make a fun terrarium (or three), and scored BIG time. I could barely contain my excitement as I quickly filled my cart up with the perfect pieces.

Supplies:

Here are a few shots from our shopping trip.

I love shopping at Goodwill for my craft projects for many reasons, but my favorite is to help in their mission:

Goodwill works to enhance the dignity and quality of life of individuals and families by strengthening communities, eliminating barriers to opportunity, and helping people in need reach their full potential through learning and the power of work.

I found a handful of amazing glass pieces—perfect for a terrarium, then discovered a bag of 12 toy cars for $3. Immediately I knew that the cars would be the perfect item for my terrariums coupled with some small bottle brush trees and faux snow I already had at home.

Alrighty, time to get to the tutorial.

I ran the glassware through the dishwasher, then set all of my supplies out and got to work.

Supplies: Goodwill glassware and toy cars, toy truck and car,  bottle brush trees in various sizesbakers twine, faux sparkly snow, scissors, mason jars, mini wood slices

I started by tying the bottle brush tree from the to my first toy car with the bakers twine. I love this pink convertible—so cute!

Wrap the string around the base of the car and center over the tree.

Tie the twine in a bow or simply trim it short.

Repeat these steps with all the cards and bottle brush trees.

You can simply use the cars on their own as whimsical decor or you can add them to your glassware to create a terrarium. I added some snow to a mason jar I had on hand.

And added the car and tree. That’s it—easiest thing ever! These little guys make great gifts!

I added my pink convertible car to a simple small wood slice coaster and added a little snow. How fun is that?

You could even add in a mini palm tree if you wanted to get crazy. So Palm Springs. 🙂

Now for the glassware DIY holiday terrariums

Add a handful of snow to a larger cookie jar or dish.

Add a medium sized bottle brush tree toward the edge.

And finally, add in your larger car and tree. I got this car from Amazon. This is my very favorite terrarium!

PS. The curtain lights you see in the background are also from Amazon ($16) in case you’re interested in purchasing some for your home. I adore mine.

Ok, let’s keep going, shall we?

I repeated these steps in two more globe style bowls to create a set of three terrariums to create a fun set.

Another easy one uses a larger vintage truck truck. I simply added a little snow to the back with a tree. I plan on bringing this one to work for a little holiday cheer. 🙂

No toy cars on hand? No problem. You can add nearly anything to a DIY holiday terrarium—ornaments, pinecones (covered in mini pom poms, seriously anything. Get creative!

I suggest starting at Goodwill for some fun, unique items.

These DIY holiday terrariums took me less than a minute each, and have really upped my holiday decor game. I highly recommend making some for yourself or as a fun gift for loved ones.
